Footpaths across Noida painted red, declared cycle tracks

Pedestrian paths in various parts of Noida are now being painted red, marking Gautam Budh Nagar¡¯s next green initiative. On Monday morning, a team of 10 workers armed with wipers, brushes and buckets of red paint drew a cycle track logo on a portion of the existing pavement along the main road. In other parts of the district, red and green signages, carrying a cyclist¡¯s image, declared the red path as a ¡°cycle track¡±.

¡°This is part of Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav¡¯s green initiative in the state. The scheme had been announced by him two years ago and is now being executed by the NOIDA Authority,¡± said a senior official.

However, the use of red and green colours in the project has led rival parties to speculate whether this is a move to paint the city in the ruling party¡¯s colours.

¡°This entire project is a huge scam. The common man¡¯s money is being wasted on this cycle track project. Do you see even one cyclist using these tracks? Now, they have painted it red which, we all know, is the Samajwadi Party¡¯s (SP) colour,¡± said Lakhmi Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)¡¯s Gautam Budh Nagar district president.
