'KEEP CEEAR': Drivers puzzled after road sign blunder appears in Maple Road, Penge

A new road marking in Penge demands drivers KEEP CEEAR, after a spelling blunder left residents scratching their heads.

The painted sign in Maple Road, which is supposed to read KEEP CLEAR, appeared last week.

A spokesman for Bromley Council said the error occurred when Southern Gas Network (SGN) dug up and then relayed the tarmac to carry out underground repair works.

He told News Shopper: ¡°We will instruct SGN to correct their mistake at their expense.¡±

But it¡¯s not the first time sign writers have struggled with typos in Bromley, after two different spellings of a Penge road were spotted.

One welcomed residents to Watermen¡¯s Square, while the other stated it was Watermens Square.

In another spelling mishap Burnt Ash Primary school in Bromley installed their new ¡®SHCOOL¡¯ sign.

Headteacher Leah Crawley said it was a mistake by the manufacturer and corrected within three hours.
